Green Building Project
|
Delightful single family home with Green Addition incorporates practical, affordable Green Standards. The home is framed with certified forest lumber, which means the lumber is purchased only from mills that comply with the most rigorous forestry standards as set by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). Beautiful reclaimed cherry wood is used to build the interior stairway. Sustainable bamboo flooring was chosen for upper floor. To lower the cost of heating and cooling, recycled blue jean insulation keeps the house warm. Stained concrete floors with radiant heating provide efficient heating throughout the downstairs. Double paned windows keep heat in and cold out, and have the added bonus as an effective sound barrier. Durable, longer lasting siding made from recycled cement, which also reduces more waste to landfills, is used to match existing siding. Rain barrels reuse household water for irrigation. The entire project, both interior and exterior, is painted with low VOC paint. This is a project to inspire others to think Green. |
